Reporting- How to Generate and Interpret Your Emissions Report

Reporting- How to Generate and Interpret Your Emissions Report

Aclymate’s reporting feature lets you generate yearly and quarterly specific emissions reports and then interpret each section to satisfy frameworks like SBTi, CDP, Ecovadis, B Corp, and more. This two-part guide walks you through generating the report in-app, then understanding its structure and purpose.

Part 1: Generate Your Yearly Report

  1. Switch to Timeframe View

    • Navigate to your Carbon Accounting Summary page.

    • Click the Y (Year) or M buttons in the time-selector above the emissions graph to aggregate data for that time period.

  1. Select Your Year or Quarter

    • In the bar chart, click the bar for the time you need.

    • A “Show Report” button appears once that bar is highlighted.

  1. Show & Export

    • Click Show Report to render your annual report in PDF format.

    • From there, you can download, print, or share it directly with stakeholders.

Part 2: Read & Interpret Your Annual Report

Once you have the PDF in hand, here’s how to navigate each section:

1. Company Statement & Metadata

  • Purpose: Sets context by explaining why your organization issued this report (e.g., transparency, compliance).

  • Contents: A brief mission-style note, the report date, and the reporting period (start and end dates).

  • Tip: Always confirm the reporting period matches the year or timeframe you intend to present.

2. Emissions Summary (At-a-Glance)

  • Purpose: Provides a high-level snapshot of your total emissions, broken down by Scope 1 (direct), Scope 2 (purchased), and Scope 3 (value-chain).

  • Contents: A summary table or call-out boxes that show totals for each scope plus any intensity metrics (e.g., per employee or per square foot).

  • Tip: Use these totals to frame your year-over-year progress or to benchmark against industry peers.

3. Quarterly Emissions Trend

  • Purpose: Visualizes how your emissions changed each quarter, highlighting seasonal patterns or operational shifts.

  • Contents: A bar chart displaying total emissions per quarter (Q1–Q4).

  • Tip: Look for spikes or dips that align with known events (e.g., cold weather, equipment upgrades) so you can investigate further.

4. Scope 1 Detail (Direct Emissions)

  • Purpose: Breaks down emissions from on-site fuel use—like natural gas for heating or fuel for equipment.

  • Contents: Sub-sections for each direct-emissions category, a quarterly trend chart, and notes on what’s included vs. excluded.

  • Tip: Compare these categories against operational logs (e.g., utility bills, maintenance records) to uncover efficiency opportunities.

5. Scope 2 Detail (Purchased Electricity)

  • Purpose: Shows emissions from grid electricity you consume, and optionally how renewable procurement adjusts those figures.

  • Contents: A summary of electricity-related emissions, a chart by quarter, plus a note on market- vs. location-based accounting if you’ve procured renewables.

  • Tip: If you use renewable energy certificates (RECs) or on-site generation, check the market-based adjustment section to see your true net emissions.

6. Scope 3 Detail (Value-Chain Emissions)

  • Purpose: Covers all indirect emissions across your upstream and downstream activities—commuting, travel, supply-chain purchases, waste, etc.

  • Contents: A ranked list of Scope 3 categories by contribution, a quarterly chart, and guidance on which categories you can influence directly.

  • Tip: Identify your top Scope 3 hotspots (e.g., employee travel or supplier emissions) for targeted reduction programs or supplier engagement.

7. Facility & Methodology Breakdowns

  • Purpose: Provides granular views by site and explains the accounting methods applied.

  • Contents:

    • Location vs. Market-Based Scope 2: How regional grid factors differ from your purchased green energy.

    • Facility Emissions Summary: Each location’s share of Scope 1 and 2, plus activity-type breakdowns (e.g., gas vs. electricity).

    • Methodology Notes: References to GHG Protocol alignment, emission factors, and any assumptions.

  • Tip: Use facility-level insights to prioritize capital projects (e.g., efficiency retrofits) at your highest-impact sites.

8. Disclaimers & Footnotes

  • Purpose: Clarifies data scope, methodology limitations, and intended use.

  • Contents: Standard disclaimers about input data accuracy, lack of third-party verification, and informational/planning intent only.

  • Tip: Reference these when sharing externally to manage expectations and maintain transparency.

🔍 Next Steps & Resources

  • In-App Exploration: Use filters for date ranges, scopes, or facilities to drill deeper.

  • Export Options: Download CSVs or take additional PDF snapshots for presentations and audits.

  • Target Setting: Leverage Aclymate’s goal module to define reduction pathways based on this report’s baseline.
